Thanks for creating such a wonderfully insightful site. My son recently committed suicide and has communicated with us in many ways. This inspired me to write a blog as well: Channeling Erik: Conversations with my Son in the Afterlife. (www.drmedhus.com/channelingerik) It is my hope that, with the help of a talented medium, a book can come of this. The goal would be to, with Erik’s help, elucidate and demystify the death process, the nature of the afterlife, the survival of consciousness after death, reincarnation, how thought creates reality, and the quantum physics behind all of it, among other spiritual matters. I would like this to be in a form similar to Conversations with God, but more accessible, understandable, and from the words of an amazing young man. I am the author of three other books, but not about this topic. My publisher is eager to take this project on. I hope to help those who are bereaved, those who fear death, and those who are curious to understand the bigger picture. Healing others seems to be important to my own healing process. I hope you can help give me some direction. xoxo Elisa
Elisa,
I would be happy to help you however you would like on this project. I read voraciously on this subject, and have reviewed many of the books that cover the general category of “survival of consciousness”. I have read your blog and left some comments, and I think your story would be of great help to people hurting over the loss of a loved one.
I would love to contribute to your book, perhaps incorporating some of the scientific, psychological, and historical background to the consciousness debate. I am a great editor and organizer, since I do that all day long in my work as a professor. It might be helpful to think of an outline of chapters, or how/if you wish to present the evidence from other academic disciplines that supports the survival hypothesis.
In any case, I would love to be of assistance to you if you wish. Stay in touch!
Kirsten
GREAT! I have a publisher already so that’s a big help. I’m going to continue to see what kind of traffic I get with my blog, and if it ramps up pretty quickly, I’ll get with my publisher and you on the specifics!

I came upon your website when I was exploring stories about Camarillo State Hospital. I couldn’t find who to contact so I’m hoping this will find its way to the right person. I have a friend whose daughter, Stephanie, is staying at something like a half-way house on the grounds of the State Hospital. Her daughters are with her. She told me it was called Rainbow or something like it. The program helps families get back on their feet. Stephanie’s daughter, Daisy, has had a few paranormal experiences but she seems to take it in stride having heard stories about the spirits that inhabit the grounds. Last week Daisy told her mom about an experience she had during the night when she was sleeping. What happened woke her up and she described her body being lifted from the bed from the chest area and a ghost or something was like sucking the air out of her. Stephanie didn’t think a whole lot about it until she was outside the building talking to a man who had lived there before her and he described an experience that was the exact same thing! A few nights later, Daisy had the same experience again only this time she was able to muster the word STOP–and it did stop. This really concerns me. Can anyone explain this? I don’t know of anyone else to contact.
Thank you,
Sharon Masson

Hi Sharon,
Thank you for writing. Although no one can really claim to be an expert on all aspects of the paranormal, I have a couple of ideas. What it sounds like to me is a weak attempt at possession. The spirits at the old Camarillo State Hospital can be very needy and confused, at least those who are stuck there for one reason or another. I have experienced the feeling that someone was attempting to attach itself to me or invade my mind/emotions. This isn’t necessarily something ‘evil,’ just a desperate move to connect with someone living. It’s important that Daisy continue to establish boundaries between herself and the spirit world. The fact that she was able to say “STOP” and the experience stopped, indicates that she has the power to keep these energies away from her. That is vitally important: she must continue to draw the boundaries between her and those who might attempt to leech her energy or invade her. She can do this by NEVER attempting to contact the spirits in that place, either via Ouija boards or ‘ghost hunting’ or any other method. She is susceptible to spirit invasion, so she CANNOT make a game out of it or invite them in. Secondly, she needs a protection prayer to say every night or a few times a day. You can easily find good protection prayers online if you Google “Prayers for protection.” She needs to stay strong in her faith, and know that she can control what happens to her body and mind. No spirit is stronger than she is, period. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your prompt reply! After contacting you the first time, I did some research on SHADOW PEOPLE. BUT, I like your reply. It makes sense plus I tend to agree with you in that it’s a weak attempt at possession. It concerns me because Daisy is only 10 years old. I’m not real psychic myself but I know enough about what you say to start educating her so that she can be in control rather than afraid. Thank you again.
Understand the need of people to believe in the afterlife or spirits because if there is just nothingness in death..what’s the point? But logically..your brain, which contains consciousness dies and disintegrates. There can be no after life consciousness. In reality, there is no point to existence except to make the best use of it while you exist in order to make yourself and others feel fulfilled.Take care of each other because we all feel pain and unhappiness. And when we die..it doesn’t matter because you will not know that it ever happened anyway. Do you remember anything before you were born? No. Same thing. Buddhism is probably the closest thing to a real view of what we are.
There is a huge amount of evidence to the contrary of your ‘brain produces consciousness’ belief, although I do respect your beliefs. This whole site is dedicated to that issue (see older posts). As for nobody remembering what happened before they were born, please read my last four posts (start with oldest one first). Also, look up Ian Stevenson’s and Jim Tucker’s research on reincarnation at the University of Virginia.
Take care, and thank you for writing.
